Cavalier Blend
Cavalier Blend is a limited-release 2024 red blend of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot from King Family Vineyards in Crozet, Virginia, just west of Charlottesville. It honors four generations of our family at the University of Virginia. It’s available only in our tasting room and online store, with a limit of 3 bottles per guest.
THE STORY
A hundred years ago, Ellen King’s father, Edward Codrington Carrington V, came to the University of Virginia, where he earned his undergraduate and law degrees. In the 1960s, his son, Edward Codrington Carrington VI, known as Ed, followed him. Ed co-captained the Virginia football team, played varsity baseball, was president of the Class of 1967, and was a member of the Seven Society. A generation later, Ellen’s son James played lacrosse at Virginia and was part of the 2006 national championship team. Today, a fourth generation of our family is walking those same paths.
Some families plant vines. Some plant roots. Ours planted both.
TASTING NOTES
A blend of 50% Cabernet Franc and 50% Petit Verdot, crafted in a style similar to our Mountain Plains Red using only our finest fruit. Aged for 20 months in French oak barrels, this wine offers depth, structure, and complexity, balanced by refined oak characteristics and the distinct character of each varietal.
